Tandem Axle Trailer

Postby Comfy Camper » Sun Aug 31, 2014 7:55 pm

I have been looking around the tnttt site, and it looks like the only use of Tandem Axle trailers is with the 6 X 12(+) enclosed trailers. My plans are to have a King Size mattress in the TD, and there will also have to be a bench seat for the Dog and Cat to sleep on. When I did the cost breakdown of Single vs. Tandem Axle - using the prices I found on this site - [http://www.performancespecialty.com/utilityequipmenttrailers.html] there is a $500 difference...I think some of the 5 X 8 trailers are $500 total.

6’4" x 10’ $795.00
Extra width (6’10" between the fenders) - add $90.00
Electric brakes on two axles (or on one single axle utility trailer) - add $135.00

$795.00
$ 90.00
$135.00
----------
$1020 - 6'10" X 10' (Deck Area) / Single Axle with Electric Brakes

or

6’4" x 10’* To 6’4" x 16’*- $1295.00
Extra width (6’10" between the fenders) - add $90.00
Electric brakes on two axles (or on one single axle utility trailer) - add $135.00

$1295.00
$ 90.00
$ 135.00
----------
$1520 - 6'10" X 10'- 6'10" X 16' (Deck Area) / Tandem Axle with Electric Brakes

Single Axle Trailer - $1020 (3,500 lb. GVWR)
Tandem Axle Trailer - $1520 (7,000 lb. GVWR)

*Tandem Axle Trailer might be a good idea for a longer trailer - 6'10 X 12'*

I am going to make a big TD, but I don't think it will be heavy enough to justify an additional $500 and the second axle.
