Maintaining mill finish aluminum

Postby kookenotes » Thu Sep 04, 2014 8:54 am

What is the best way to clean and preserve a mill finish roof and hatch? Will a good grade car wax do the job or is there another recommended product or technique that you have found effective. So far, I have just washed it off with soap and water and towel dried it but it has some hand marks on it that don't wash off. I want to try to maintain the mill finish as close as possible. Thanks for any and all advice. Bill

Mothers Aluminum Polish and a electric polisher will give it a low sheen if that's what your after.
You can get it at Home Depot, or any auto store. :D Danny

Hi Danny - Thanks for your response. I will pick some up tomorrow and give it a try. I am hoping to just clean it and restore the original factory finish. I don't want to polish it out to a mirror shine. After I'm done polishing it, should I give it a coat of car wax to keep it protected? I appreciate the help and advice. Bill

I used http://www.amazon.com/BLACKFIRE-Diamond-Metal-Sealant-16oz/dp/B003KWIOA8 on a trailer once and it seemed to work pretty good. The bottle says it's good for about a year before it needs to be re-applied.
Read the reviews.
