Seeking hidden radio antenna info.

Postby doug hodder » Mon Jan 05, 2015 7:44 pm

I would like to install an AM FM DVD in the new trailer I'm building, but I don't want to have an exterior mast type antenna. In fact...the radio will be hidden so that it isn't visible on the interior to discourage someone from seeing it while it's in storage and breaking in for a cheap radio. At any rate....have any of you had an experience with the hidden antennas and has it been a good one? I see the True Tappers for 40$ and lesser priced ones are all over the place. What say you? Thanks in advance. Doug

I've got a powered marine style hidden one in my Foamy. Its just
thrown in the electric junction box in the rear of our unit.
It seems to work well.

Hey Doug , I went to auto parts store and bought an antenna that is designed to mount vertically (well really kinda slanted) to the side on the "a" pillar aka windshield post. Then I mounted it horizonally in the galley just behind the hinge. I extended it out till it touched the side and it picks up real well. It is very unoffensive tucked up there out of the way.

Hi Doug
Yes, they work just fine!
You don't need to spend much money either.
We have one in Miss Piggy, just hidden away on the inside of the body about 3 ft from the Am/FM Radio/Stereo unit.
They normally come with a self adhesive backing and are not very large, designed to stick to the inside of front windshields.
I put them in most street rods we build.
Another option is a "regular" car antenna mounted out of sight (they still work)....I used to mount them between the frame and the
splash aprons of most cars or trucks with the cable coming up through the floor behind the kick panel.
They are real cheap....under $15.00.

Doug, I tried one under my aluminum skin and it didn't work for me. Ended up with a powered one (small) through the roof and it picks up really well. Most of my camping is done away from cities and populated areas where the broadcasters usually locate their towers.
