Spar placement.

Postby dales133 » Sat Jan 10, 2015 10:07 pm

Due to my benroy being longer than the generic plans I can't obviously measure there position from the front.
Could someone give me an idea of the distance from the back to the hatch spar.
The second from the back spar does it sit above, in front, or behind the galley wall.
I may move them around a bit to suit my build but this would give me a good starting point.
Thanks in advance dale

I'm not fluent on the generic Benroy plans but your hatch spar should be aft of the upper bulkhead. If you can, butt it to the rear bulkhead, it'll make for a stronger support.

Thanks tony' so that means the second from the rear spar would be inside the cabin?

The last interior spar should butt to the inside of the upper bulkhead.

I make my galley spar from 2x2 oak. The side facing the hatch has to be 90ยบ to the roof so it's kind of a trapezoid(?) shaped piece assuming your roof is rolling down at that point.

Ok cool so I'd need to rip or plane that spar so it was perpendicular to the galley wall but followed the roofline aswell?
The hatch spar in the plan looks to be about a foot aft of the 2nd to last spar though?

If that's where the plan put's it, you might want to stick with it.

Yes, rip would be the easiest way of course. Just imagine how your hurricane hinge has to sit with a 3/8" gap between the spar and the hatch.
