booyah....to add to what Tony said, if you build longer, you mat be able to turn the cooler the other way and roll it out. This gives you more width in the galley. You might spend some time looking at what others have done in their galleys. There is a galley page somewhere with lots of options. Maybe someone smarter then me can tell you where it is.

Quick question, whats the largest cooler you can fit in the galley of a generic 5x8 benroy after an insulated roof, the hatch, and a queen bed in the cabin? Looking to fit something like the Coleman xtreme 5 day in the 70 liter if possible, if not maybe the 50?

Thanks!

Booyah:

I think you are on the right track as far as planning your galley. Like Woodbutcher, I believe in designing the galley around the target cooler (and also a water jug).

You'll note in the first part of the Generic Benroy plan, it says you can stretch it to 9' or 10'. Stretching of course adds labor and costs but adding another foot of length in a teardrop really adds space almost exponentially. If you choose to consider this, take a look at the thread on stretching plywood.

After this photo was taken, I added a storage slot behind the cooler for paper plates and behind the 7-gallon water jug for two extra propane cylinders.

Enjoy your build.

The two pictures you posted are of two different galleys?????? Right??
Unless you change everything???

Welcome to the forums booyah. I think you are right to plan the teardrop around your galley and your style of cooking. I doubt any two home builds have the same galley. You can spend days looking at pictures of them for ideas. Some like sinks, others not, and some even like pumping up old coleman stoves. Not pumping up the stove is one of the things I like the most. I do alot of mountain biking and in the evening really enjoy some fresh muffins or brownies. I feel I have earned it, already having burned off the calories.

Woodbutcher mentioned putting the cooler on a pull out shelf and that is sure handy. Mine is a 5x10 benroy and I have the Coleman Extreme on a pull out lengthwise.

Thanks folks,

Gage, I wasnt trying to be difficult, just asking of folks who have built em. I would be a fool to assume I could figure it out better than someone whos been down that road already. I figured the coleman xtremes would be popular enough someone could answer that first hand.

Thanks for the help everyone, I love looking at the galleys, for my family food is such a big part of the fun, that I want to make sure the kitchen is up to the task!
My build, 5x8 modified benroy "Smiles to go". Started April 2nd 2015, first trip August 2nd 2015.
