MythBusters, A homemade TD, and RPG

Hey guys and gals. Just check you Youtube for a video on running a trencher, so I can replace my main water line, when I spotted this video. This video might contain useful info on how to quickly remove your old TD off it’s frame so you can begin anew.

The blast was fun; but, it was a waste of what could have become a nice camp trailer. :(

I recently rented a walk behind Ditch Witch to run a new main for our cabin in the woods. The trench ran ~430' from the meter to the house. The trencher gave me a workout but I got started about 7 AM and by 5 PM we had running water, the trench was covered and the machine returned to the rental place in Mineola. I was able to buy a 500' roll of 1" HDPE from a wholesaler in Fort Worth so no splices. wOOt!

A better alternative would be to hire someone with a horizontal boring machine to run your line.
Our neighbor's tree trimming company smashed our line from falling tree limbs.
We hired a 2 man crew run the line with their horizontal borer.
They dug a 2' x 2' hole at the meter to start and burrowed under the lawn.
It bored right through the cement foundation where it popped up under the house.
They used a fitting something like a Chinese puzzle to pull the new line between the house and meter.
Took less than 2 hours, was reasonable and the landscaping was left intact.
Great video.

Trencher went from a cool toy to a major work out machine in very short order! :R
Last year we laid over 3000 ft of underground sprinkler pipe in the back yard so we would have a nice camping area for our Teardrop friends! ;) Rented a trencher, but still a ton of work.
