Are our builds "reproductions"

Postby Johnysteam » Mon Feb 16, 2015 5:21 am

Hello, I have just had my tiny traveller called a reproduction. in a caravan mag
Its new, built to an old plan, from scratch.

Can a new home made tntt built from old plans be classed as a reproduction? when back in the day a lot of tntts were officially built at home.
Don't I just have a home built tntt
I feel cheap , hehe

JS, you should be honored to be part of a large group of individuals who have or have built one ... Reproduction is Not a bad word , it’s just saying it was built like a proven design , an older design .... which is pretty Cool really !!! 8)
There’s no place like Foam !

To me if you change anything then it's not a reproduction it an original ,that meaning materials or design in any way

The word "Reproduction" to me, means something that is newly made to the same specs as was produced by the original manufacturer.
Since "Home Built" Teardrop Trailers from "Plans" have been continuously built since the 1930's ......they can hardly be called "Reproductions" even though someone could argue that the 1st one built off the "Plans" was a reproduction of the prototype that the plans were drawn off of?????
Guess it is all in the interpretation? :?
But, who cares! As Long as you are having fun building it and camping in it!!!

well... according to the Merriam-webster, yes, you are creating a reproduction... Check out the definition:

not a bad thing at all if you ask me...

If I build a car from scratch, is it a reproduction considering that someone has already built a car?

I don't know any teardrops that are "built exactly like the originals". Every one built, has a bit of the builder's ideas within it, and therefore aren't exactly like any others. I would hate to have someone contend that I copied some other woody guy's ideas. Nope, I feel that we are all building an original, with all of our own ideas and shapes and different components. Long live the one-of-a-kind, home-built, non-originals like ours.

Realistically all TD's are a variation on the original. We no longer use timber for our chassis and a frame. So, unfortunately, I have to agree with Brian ;)
Cheers
