I picked the trailer up yesterday afternoon, I am stripping the interior now to begin insulation. Since the insulation process has been shown so many times, I am not going to post pictures until I start woodworking. I will also show the trailer in general at that time, probably in a couple days since I am so slow.

I just tried to put a picture as my avatar. I am only posting this to see if it worked.

Gold5one wrote:Good luck on that custom build. You will have a new trailer to work with- that helps. I don't blame you for living your dream, just don't out do yourself trying to get done ASAP- I know how hot Arizona gets by April . Do you have anyway to get some help? I had a neighbor who used to call the LDS temple every fall and ask for help on her yard work- they sent two young Mormon girls out on a Saturdays to help her and they loved doing it, I know I talked to them. That's plan B for me, too, if I ever get in a bind for help. ;)

What a great idea! Oh Oh. My wife happened by and saw this over my shoulder. She reminded me that our 50th anniversary was a couple weeks ago and if I wanted to make 51 I should drop that idea.

I actually started on the trailer build today. I guess that is what you would call it anyhow. I pulled part of the lining out, but the main accomplishments were straightening out the things I forgot to tell them to do. I forgot all about a step, and also to tell them to frame up a vent in the ceiling. That meant that I had to buy a step, fab up supports for it, then weld it on. That is where it became a problem. The undercoating that LOOK trailers puts on is TOUGH and then when you grind on it, it clogs the grinding disc, as well as melting the undercoating and spreading the stuff all across where you already ground. It was a major pain to say the least. Then after I fabbed up a support to put in the ceiling for the fan, I found out that they coated ALL the metal in the trailer, including the side ribs and ceiling, with that same stuff. I'm glad they do it that way, I sure won't ever have to worry about rust, but hope for some progress on insulating tomorrow, after that, some pictures.

I have actually been working on the trailer, as energy and health permit. So far I pulled the liner, insulated, and re-installed the liner after putting in the rough-in electric. I haven't posted (or taken) any pictures yet because, to me, all insulation and liners look the same. I have found that the people who built this trailer are not as careful as I am, as Most of the supposedly square corners are a long ways from square. It's OK on the front half, but X measuring the back half of the trailer shows it to be an inch out of square. Not enough to hurt anything, but for sure enough to tick me off since now I have to figure out the angles to cut, instead of just having a nice clean, straight cut like I had on the teardrop. Ah,well, just as long as it comes out well..................

HI Darrell,
Sounds like you will be out camping in no time. I'm sure you're new trailer will be just as nice or better than "mine!" It was fun seeing you last weekend and meeting your wife. Hopefully, we will cross paths again.

For sure we will see each other often, as you now seem as afflicted with the camping disease as the rest of us, including Cheryl and I, are. We really enjoyed the gathering, even with only spending a few hours there. It rejuvenated my mind, if not my body. It will likely be a few weeks before we are ready, but the Cottenwood campground you mentioned will probably be our first destination. We will have to get more information from you.
I am very happy that you and the TD are getting along well, there is sometimes "buyers remorse" after a major purchase, especially when trying something absolutely new, as you did.
Good to see you then, and to hear from you now.
