All about water or white and grey

Postby Biker_Boy » Mon Mar 23, 2015 12:35 am

So, progressing on purchases for my 7 x 14 build. My wife is a nurse no no dry camping for us, she washes her hands every 5 minutes. My questions are what size fresh and grey water tanks do you install? Just the 2 of us and maybe a guest. For now we only have a sink and a porta potty but may want to add a shower in the future. And, what size of grey water tank? The same as fresh? Less? More? I have seen some discussion on mounting here and I have both some inside space in the front and outside space the length of the CT in the frame. I would appreciate any experiences or advice prior to purchasing the water system components.

We have the CampInn trailer and it has 8 gallon fresh, 8 gallon gray water. Trailer has no shower and we have a Luggable Loo and tent for restroom needs. Of course, you have a toilette on board, you would need a black water tank as well.

With 8 gallons, we use water sparingly but have never run out over 3-4 day trips. When we are at camprounds, we hook up and not use on board water. Most water is used to wash dishes. We empty gray water tank usually when we get home but it's usually only about 1/3 full after a weekend trip.

If she washes her hands that much you are going to need very large fresh and gray water tanks! Tell her she's not at work; therefore she doesn't have to wash her hands every time she touches something. :)

YESsss! Else get one of the large, economy size dispenser bottles of Purell, GermX, or other waterless, hand sanitizer/cleaner... My wife is also a nurse (long retired) who has a compulsion to wash/cleanse her hands often. The waterless hand sanitizer (gelled alcohol?) works for her.

We have a 10 gallon fresh water tank and 6 gal hot water heater. The company that built the trailer installed a 16 gallon gray water tank, forgetting there is no way to get the 6 gallons out of the hot water heater short of pulling the drain plug. I plan on installing a 16 gallon fresh water tank. Yes we have run out after three or more days.

We built our big woody with a sink and have a two gallon water tank, it fits under the sink. We have a portable grey water tank we put under the teardrop to collect the grey water. We usually are camping at a state park and it's easy to refill the 2 gallon water tank as needed. I do dishes in the sink and we usually only have to add water once a weekend to the fresh water tank. It is easier than installing grey water tanks underneath the trailer.
