Hiker Teardrops

Postby JuneBug » Fri Feb 20, 2015 10:32 am

Last week we took our annual trip to the Big Bend area for the annual Chihuahuan Desert Bike Fest. It takes 8.5 solid road warrior hours to get there but it is ALWAYS worth it! If you have a chance to go to the Big Bend area, do it. The geology is simply stunning and is really like no other place in the US. It is out there, though. The closest WalMart is 150 miles away in Ft. Stockton, and the closest town of any note (grocery store, ER, hospital) is Alpine, 80 miles away.

453 mountain bikers showed up to ride the trails of Big Bend Ranch State Park, many of whom camp in tents and some in small trailers at the Maverick RV Park next to the state park. I've started seeing a few more teardrops (all ready-mades) at these events. This year there was a T@G trailer (camped next to a T@B!) and a new-to-me brand called a Hiker Teardrop; it has a more angular profile than a "traditional" tear, but I really liked it. The owners weren't around when I spotted it, but it look good from the outside.

Hike Teardrops has a facebook page (but no web page, as far as I can tell). Nicely finished, reasonably priced and they indicated they'll be producing 5-wides beginning last month.

As a company as looks like they just spit out the same model with a different paint job. Still kinda neat design though

My impression is they have a basic model with no galley and another model with galley and what not.
There is an indication on FaceBook that they are now making (or accepting orders for) a 5-wide version.
Wish they'd put up a Web site with more information and not rely solely on facebook. They have a web address listed but it flips right back to facebook.

I have an order in with them! Rob in Colorado and Wes in Indiana work together to make the 'same' trailers. They'll work with you to customize a trailer to your needs. The latest on their Facebook page is pretty slick/rugged. If I had a bigger budget and much more time, I would've gotten something similar! I've talked to both gentlemen and they are both extremely passionate and all around excited about getting you something you can be equally excited about! Can't wait to get mine!

They also have a website with some more images. http://www.hikerteardrop.com/

From personal experience, you Will pay a wind resistance penalty. The big advantage is that the interior room is much greater.

I don't doubt it, but it's gotta be better than the much taller 5x8 cargo trailer I was looking at! ha
