I don't know what's wrong with us but we're going to build another trailer. When we built the Midget, we wanted something bigger than a traditionally sized teardrop. We designed it to pull behind our early Bronco and it has been a great combination. Now that the Bronco has increased substantially in value and is prone breakdowns due to it's age, we have been pulling with our GMC 2500 4x4 diesel pickup on long distance trips. I guess we've got to the point where repairing the tow vehicle on the side of the road has worn out it's welcome. During our recent travels we've thought it would be fun to have a smaller trailer we could pull behind our Mini Cooper Clubman. I have always like the Benroy profile so we started working on a plan. At first we were going to use an old box trailer that has been in my family for over 40 years. It has been to Baja several times, Boy Scout campouts and used to haul everything to the dump. I was gifted this trailer several years ago and on the trip home from southern California, it decided to start falling apart. We pulled it out of the weeds and I started to disassemble the box. Once we got down to the frame we found a solid front axle from a car probably 30's or 40's vintage on an angle iron frame. The frame was full of holes and the 3x2 channel tongue was bent up from hauling too much weight. After measuring the width we could barely fit a 4 wide box on it. We decided it wasn't worth using. I'll do something with it around the vineyard so it's not a total loss.
No we could expand our design. Here's what we're going with. 5x8 cabin on full perimeter frame with a Torqflex axle like on our Midget. Benroy shape and an effort to keep the weight down so it will pull behind the Mini. We'll start a build journal in the appropriate folder to document our build. Stay tuned! By the way, Lynn wants a woody with aluminum top.
