Canadian $ vs US $

Postby Vedette » Wed Apr 08, 2015 1:38 am

It is fun to buy new parts for a Teardrop build on ebay or other sources on the net.
But, with the difference in our Canadian $ right now it is not so much fun anymore?? :(
Just got my new tires, wheels, and hub caps for Kermit, and even though I drove across the boarder to pick them up (saving shipping & brokerage fees) they cost me just over $1200.00 Can $.
Yes, that is for two! 130327

Nice wheels but not so nice price.
Worse for us though brian we've got day light robbery shipping to add too!
Even reasonable shipping from the likes of grant whipp still ends up the same or more than the parts...still cheaper than here though

Yes Dale
No water to cover.
Ordered my wheels from Wheels Vintiques on a Tuesday afternoon, they arrived at my US shipping address on Friday, and I drove down (70 miles) on Sunday to pick them up. I think the shipping was $20.00

Looks to be .80 to the US dollar.
Would be nice if we were headed to Lake Superior Provincial Park, fees have gone way up since we camped there 20 years ago even adjusting for inflation.

Wow!!! They look good but at $.80 to the US$ that is still $960 US for two wheels and tires. Seems very, very expensive. Can you or are you willing to break down the cost for a wheel, a tire and a hubcap? What was your source? Thanks.

No Problem.
Wheels from Wheels Vintiques 15x6 Artillery @ $126.00 US ea.
Stainless Baby Moon Hubcaps $31.00 US ea.
Frieght $41.82 US
Sub Total $356.82 converts to $486.87 Can.
Taxes at the Canadian Border 12% = $58.42 can.
Handling Fee at my US Shipping Address $4.00 US or $5.00 can.
Tires 195 x 15 Radial Wide White Walls $ 231.95 US ea. on ebay. I paid $300.00 ea. cash taxes in = $600.00 can.
Powder coating $50.00 can. for the pair (cash good guy deal)
Mounting and balancing $43.35 can.
Beauty Rings @ 35.00 US ea. 0r $84.00 can. + tax = $94.00 (I had a set of these in stock)

So the actual total was $ 1337.64 of which I only had to reach in my pocket for $1243.64 as I had the Beauty Rings already.
Adds up fast doesn't it?
And you think this was bad????? My next trip I get my headliners (yes, two as I mate two roofs) and my Dexter Axle.
Ouch!

We time our purchases with camping trips so we can avoid the taxes.

We too order parts to coincide with our stays in the USA. But in the winter months we do not spend as much time in the USA as we do in the summer months.
