If I were to sell my camper - What could I get?

Postby Rose4aname » Fri Jun 12, 2009 8:27 am

I may be looking to sell but I don't know what to ask for. Obvisiously I want as much as I so i can get something else but I don't want to price too high either. Please take a look at my pictures and let me know what a good price may be. Thanks

Don't worry about hurting my feelings - just tell me what you think. Thanks

I was wondering why the water balloon was getting bigger... and then it hit me.

I find it most useful in these cases to follow a bunch of eBay sales. Craigslist can be all over the place - that's what folks are asking for the campers, not what they will actually go for. In about a year of following eBay, I found that 'shells' - an old camper in a field that needs to be refitted - go for around $500 give or take on the amount of water damage. Refurbished trailers go for much more (usually starting at $2,000), but it's all over the place depending on how closely they were restored to original condition and the number of luxury items (like roof AC and flat screen TVs) installed. But I saw a beautiful restoration that didn't even go for $1,400 ... it didn't have a lot of storage space and the owner wasn't around to show anyone through it. So go figure. I pretty much concluded that what it's worth (to others) doesn't necessarily have anything to do with $$$ spent on materials or the number of hours labor. Sorry I can't be more help.

I have two thoughts on getting rid of stuff on craigs list (etc).

1) If I want it gone, I price it to move.
2) If I care about value, I'll start higher than I hope to get and drop the price 5% a week until it goes.
Neither of these options helps you know the best price up front.

Another option: I've worked with an auctioneer who let me bring a big item or two with the understanding that I may bid on the item. If I buy it, no commission. They seem content to do this on big items because it takes just a minute or two for the chance to make $50 to $100. Advice if you do this: Establish a reserve price ahead of time with the auctioneer. Bid only if it looks like you won't reach it, and as soon as you do, stop bidding. This keeps the whole transaction legit without them having to worry about remembering the reserve price. For big stuff, I'd shoot for a 5% commission.
