I used a half clam shell for a boat. Drilled a hole through the front and ran the wire through. Then used caulk fill around the wire. Put the half clam shell on and filled around the cable with caulk again. Have not had any leaks and I have towed through heavy rain and wind at highway speeds.

I have poked so many holes in my roof and I seal all the penetrations with 3m 5200. Here is a pic of my solar array and charge controller. I made all the frames for the panels so I could easily remove the panels without changing or removing the penetration bolts.
