VHB tape on fiberglass and wood

Postby dogscats » Sun Jul 05, 2015 1:04 pm

Has anyone used VHB tape on fiberglass and sealed plywood. On the fiberglass flanges I am using. I planing to use 1/4 plywood as infill. So I was thinking VHB tape and use the 3/16" closed end aluminum structural rivets. What do you think ?
On the flanges I will be using Acetone to clean the fiberglass gelcoat, then clean off the Acetone residue with alcohol, (even though Acetone evaporates quickly, it does leave a very light residue) and then a light scuffing using a Scotch Brite type pad or very light touch with very fine sandpaper before applying the VHB tape. Will not use MEK as a cleaner or prep, as that might soften the Fiberglass.

VHB tape is what holds out solar panel and the Kedar rail on, it's still on.
Use either the 3 M cleaner or alcohol as prep.
