Anyone used and actual Door Knob for entrance door?

Postby lacofdfireman » Sun Apr 03, 2016 10:47 pm

Just curious if anyone has actually used a door knob or actual house door handle for the exterior entrance door? All I see is the RV style door handles and locks. Just wondering if this would work and why nobody does them? Is it because of looks? Can't find any images on here where it's been done so thinking this is the wrong thing to do but I do like the security and functionality of an actual door handle. Any opinions on why or why not?

I would assume that an actual door knob requires about 1-1/4" to 1-1/2" thick door for proper install. Most tear or camper doors are not that thick.
I fear the day that technology will surpass our human interaction, the world will have a generation of idiot's.

I've seen one used. On the back of the door he put a block of wood about 4 inches square and 1 inch thick to make it work. He's been using the trailer for over 12 years. It works perfectly.

Yep, I used a regular knob and deadbolt on the door of the Decotear. I built the door 1 1/2" thick to do so.

GregM would you happen to have a photo of it on your trailer? And how do you like it compared to a standard RV recessed door handle?

Mine is probably a special case because my door is a single large one at the back, and the door is recessed, but it's worked well for five years so far.
