RV Awning

Postby Cinewolf » Tue Apr 05, 2016 4:29 pm

Hello, anyone have a idea where I can get a good "cheap" 8 to 9 foot long roll up awning that comes complete? Be nice if it would come out 8 feet.

Thank you in advance for your Answers

:D

We use an ez up canopy, actually 2. Depending on what the expected weather conditions are, we will often cover those with a large tarp. The tarp covers the camper, then both canopies. The ez up puts tension onto the tarp, the tarp (held down with these great 14" long, flat, lawn stakes from HD) puts compression on the ez up. We have had this in wind/rain storms over 70 mph multiple times. We don't get wet and the system is very, very strong.

The ez up by itself costs a fraction of an awning and covers a larger area, plus it can be moved around. I had awnings on my 25' travel trailer, my 34' Bounder, and my house, the ez up is often easier to set up than a fold out awning. Just my opinion.

We have a 10\x10' Broadstone and a 12'x12' Coleman ezee up.! We love them both, and take both with us while on long trips.
Shade, rain, And wind protection for most camping situations.

Check into Marti's Awnings. She made up an awning for our Scotsman restoration and the quality of workmanship is fantastic. She has a web site you can google.

I have a tiny (8' box) Starcraft Meteorite 817 pop-up that I use for hunting/fishing camping. I bought a Shade-Maker (I believe) bag type awning for it. Pretty sure it is 7' long but only extends about 6-7'. It mounted on the awning rail already on the Starcraft, rides easily, and is pretty easy to 'erect'. Don't have any pix of it in use but here's one right after I installed it. They're relatively inexpensive & work pretty well. For our teardrop I too use the EZ-up or First-Up awnings. They work great, are easy to erect, tie down, & mine have been very sturdy except when a storm blew a tree limb onto one in Missouri. I replaced the bent/broken frame parts with spares I had from another First-Up & we're still using it... sometimes when we have a large camp I set up the First-Up directly in front of the Shade-Maker & use plastic 'aligator clamps' to fasten the Shade-Maker & the First-Up 'valances' together in case of rain.

I stumbled into a vendors page who sold ABR as I get. They were in several dimensions and had zip on. Sidewalks available

I don't have a link in my phone. I do at home. You could probably Google ABR

Maybe you can find a take off?
This is my idea not sure it will work.
The tubes can be cut to needed length so almost any would work. Then replace/cut awning fabric with correct size. I have the parts off my mom's trailer she replaced her's with electric when the fabric separated. I spoke to RV dealer, he said it can be done. I'm hoping to try this spring/summer.

I have been looking, here in Los Angeles it is tough. Love to get a used one, you are right, wouldn't be hard to re-size. Just have to remember to get the mounting hardware too!
