Overnight

Postby Catherine+twins » Sat Jun 04, 2016 11:52 am

Dear daughter and I went for a quick overnighter at our local campground at Bandelier Nat Monument. It was the annual Starry Night fest, so they had telescopes and talks Thursday and Friday nights, and will be there tonight, too. We went last night, and since we knew we would be out until late (the clouds rolled in finally, so we were only sky-watching until 11:00), we took the trailer and just crashed after the event. SO NICE! It took us 10 minutes to set up last night, another 10 to pack up this morning, and we're already home. Yeah, we couldn't stay longer because I need to be available by phone, and the reception at the park is horrible. I also have to be at work at 3:30 this afternoon. Bummer. But the night out was nice!

We did forget the hair brush, though.

Did they have Tyler Nordgren doing the Starry Night presentation? I caught his presentation at El Malpais National Monument back on May 28 toward the start of my vacation trip, and got the impression he was doing a bunch of them at various NPS units.

I didn't catch the ranger's name, but he is an acheo-astronomer who works at Bandelier and teaches archeoastronomy in Taos (maybe UNM-Taos). He's currently filling out the forms to have Bandelier declared something like a "Dark Park."

We went again this past weekend, just for another night out, but it was cloudy, so no stars. There was a nice breeze that cooled the trailer off at about 12:30, though.
