Possible trailer for build

Postby stanger1944 » Wed Jul 06, 2016 9:08 pm

Here is a possible trailer to modify for a future teardrop build. It is only 43.5x96, but I think I can extend the floors out to the sides a little and build inner fenders over the tires if need be. I would beef this one up especially on that long tongue. Looking for ideas on whether I should move the axle back toward the rear or extend the front some with such a long tongue. Tips would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Does it have decent suspension? I'm sure you could figure a design to work.. This is the place for ideas and help.

If it were my money, I would put some plywood sides on that one and use it as the utility trailer it once was, and build a new one to suit the teardrop trailer I was planning to build.

It is just my "not experienced in teardrop" person opinion, there are obviously much more experienced people on this board. It depends what features or design do you like and how much work you would want to do on it. As an option with less amount of work, it could be possible to build with a "basement" for storage compartments using existing steel structure and maybe a kitchen slideout and then have a nice wide platform for sleeping over the wheels. It is a minimal change to steel, mostly woodwork or whatever materials you choose. I think I remember seeing such builds on this forum. Sleeping between these wheel wells would be too tight for two. Cutting the tong shorter should be easy.
