Fenders suggestions desired.

Postby kerryb » Tue Aug 16, 2016 11:23 pm

I'm building a Teardrop cargo trailer for the motorcycle. Making good progress but the HF fenders are heavy and not real stylish. Can anyone suggest a source of lightweight fenders that might look better on these 8" wheels.
I have a build thread going called "cargo woody tear" if you want more details.

thanks

Have you thought about the wheel covers they make for the wheels on ultralight air craft like these http://www.aircraftspruce.com/menus/ap/wheelfairings.html a bit pricey but you may be able to find some second hand they would certainly look nice

Appears your wheels are 'under' the trailer body. If so you may want to do something similar to what I did. I ordered a 'diamond tread' jeep (I think) fender from Northern Tool (they're not inexpensive :( ). After it arrived I measured the amount needed for a fender (for my 12" wheels), cut off the excess with metal cutting blade in my jigsaw, then split the fender in two lengthwise. I then ' V notched' each 'raw' edge, made a 'form' of high density plywood to fit the arc of the fender, bent down against the form, the 'tabs' made by notching, drilled 1/4" holes in 4 of the tabs, & bolted the 'new fenders' to my TD (think I used 1" long, 1/4" lag screws & lock washers). I later used the 'wheelwell cutouts' from the diamond tread trim to make 'skirts' for the fenders, but they looked pretty good before that...

I used the plastic fenders from etrailer to save weight. Check them out on their site.

Carry On Trailers also makes a plastic fender. I bought some at my local Orselen store and I just dropped the trailer off at the body shop to have them put on and painted. I like them. https://www.carry-ontrailer.com/parts-accessories/611/
