I am building the tear specifically to kayak and fish (from the kayak). Haven't been fishing in a couple years now. Time to get my priorities straight.

Been fishing for 50 out of my 60 years, and I just discovered kayak fishing this year. I can't get enough of it. Even a day with no bites is a great day of paddling. I have a 10.5 foot FutureBeach 126"W" hull sit-in. It was one of the cheaper ones I found, and picked it because I wasn't sure if I would like it and didn't want to spend a lot, but now that I know I'm hooked I'll probably be buying a longer one this fall. I didn't put roof racks on my tear when I built it, but it's 46 lbs and easy to get on the car roof by myself.

Fishing from a pedal kayak is the way to go. You can do 10+ miles in a day, hands free. You catch more fish in a quiet watercraft than a noisy power boat.

Yeah, it also helps when battle wind or current. Large muscle groups are stronger and work longer. Can pedal faster than I can paddle, that's for sure.

It is heavy, though.

She's been riding up on the truck rack, and I've been contemplating a roof rack mod for the TD. Hasn't congealed in my mind yet. Both weight (the internal frame is just 2x2's) and leaks are a concern.

I think maybe aluminum rails running fore/aft to spread the load, with butyl tape between them and the roof where I screw into the framing would be a platform for a conventional car top rail/rack system to mount to, and between them gain eno8gh clearance for the roof vent.

I have the tow vehicle and canoes - one solo and one tandem - just have to complete the teardrop.

I learned the hard way that you always want the boats on the TV, that way you can leave the tear at the campsite and take advantage of any paddling spots you see.
Mounted on the tear, you run the risk of not having the boat when you want it.

I have two Wilderness Systems SOT kayaks and I can fish out of either one, a 10' and a 12' Tarpon.
But I am considering an inflatable dual one for those long trips with the camper.

We just upgraded her boat from a Tarpon 100 to a Hobie Sport, after she had major shoulder injury and surgery this winter. I'm keeping the Tarpon as a small water/shallow river boat, and it is easier to put on my truck rack than my Hobie Outback.

I am told great things about the Hobie inflatables by someone who takes his in large bays and even the ocean.

My van rack arrived today and will go on the TD this week. Then I'll have the option on putting it on the truck in the rack or on the TD rack, as well as in the truck bed when I'm not towing.
