Tire Won't Hold Air

Postby bdosborn » Sun Sep 08, 2019 6:12 pm

Any ideas why this tire won't hold air? I checked it before we left and it was fine.

Looks like you have a separated belt. You can usually tell by watching the tread while you rotate it. Many times, there will be a "jog" in the tread. Time to replace it.

Thanks, for the tip, I was going to run it for a while longer but I guess I'll replace it.

Just curious. May I ask what brand / size tire that was? Sure hope nothing happened to you.

Cheers Peter

I came out of it a lot better than I could have, that's for sure. The wheel well needs some paint where it was rubbed off and there's a 1" hole I need to patch. Remarkably, the wheel is fine. A couple of vehicles that were lining up to pass me me jammed on their skids and suddenly everyone was backing away from me. I was wondering why when I saw a bunch of blue smoke in the rear view mirror. Then I saw the tire tread explode off the sidewalls in the side mirror and I managed to get us off the highway immediately, thank goodness. I never heard a thing and it didn't affect the truck at all. I wouldn't have known it happened if I hadn't seen it.

Kumho Radial 857 I got from the Tire Rack. These were supposed to be a good replacement after my Goodyear Marathons blew up but it looks like other people have been having problems too.

Wow quite the experience! Glad to hear you were safe. Always been a fear of mine to lose a tire on the highway. Not realizing it right away would suggest to me that you have a well balanced trailer.

Take care
Peter

May be time to upgrade to 15" tires.

Probably will, I sized the wheel wells to accept them.
