We have a small maybe 18in round grill. We have limited space. We mainly pack fresh fruit n veggies. Canned food. Might grill a burger or bbq some chicken. We haven't really used it that much. Nice to have though. I don't like gas grills. I can taste the gas in my food and I get nauseated. We have a stainless steel grate we used on our trip to the beach a few weeks ago. Dug a pit, put some wood and charcoal in the pit, put the grate over the pit and had our shrimp boil.

The Rainier X2 is amongst the contenders. CampChef makes some nice quality products, so paying up for it may just be worth it. Comes with storage case and both griddle & grill grate. Comes with the 1lb connection and option of bulk. https://www.campchef.com/rainier-2x.html?gclid=Cj0KCQjw3s_4BRDPARIsAJsyoLOijzyHwisM5yUa0Kpfmmj6UtIF1ibFEjqvb5MBT1kq0ul9cFhAkicaAuItEALw_wcB

Stansport makes something pretty close for a good amount of $$ less, but... no case, no griddle.. and it's Stansport

Coleman also makes a combo, yet not hearing good things about it.. Seems they no longer make the griddle part for it and placing a griddle (or large pan) on the grate has caused it to melt.. that's not good to hear. Shame cause I do like my 2 burner Coleman.

Update: I pulled the trigger and ordered the Rainier X2. It just hit all the needs in a unit. I'm looking forward to giving it a good go and reporting back.

We used a coleman version of that grill and stove for while. We used to make a cover out of tin foil for what ever we were grilling to keep the heat in. Otherwise it took forever to cook. Other than that we liked it.

Another on another forum said pretty much the same. Issue with the Coleman is the melting grate.. when covered by tin-foil.. that really bothered me.

Kamado Joe Junior

Postby Dusty Mark » Thu Jul 23, 2020 7:53 am

Now that I have a truck, we grill on a Kamado Joe Junior. It fits behind the driver's seat. I've used a Big Green Egg ceramic smoker griller at home since 2001 and it's nice to do similar style cooking while camping. Steaks and burgers are back on the menu!

I needed to replace my el cheapo Char Broil portable gas grill like the one below.. It was as ornery and inconsistent an item as could be. A classic example of you get what you pay for. . Not to knock the Char Broil brand. They make multiple better grills. This is their bottom of the line I had. I didn't pay much and didn't get much.

I just ordered this Cuisinart CGG-180T to replace the el cheapo I had. Should be here soon for me to try out. Seems to be a good step up in quality and performance. According to it's reviews. We shall see.

One reason I went with the Cuisinart is I have a cubby in the tear galley the grill needs to fit in. This should do the trick.

I personally have never cared for gas grilling. I've always preferred charcoal. I gave up the coals years back because I like to grill at lunch time when I road trip. Stop in a nice spot and have at it. The coal grills were a problem from a time and disposal problem. Not to mention bringing coals with too. When it was time to leave finding a responsible place to dump hot coals was an issue.

No such issue with the gas. Plus the unit cools quickly too and can be stowed shortly after use.

Interesting unit. Size is about as we want. I have to assume the '180' is the cooking surface area. I will continue to research this one. Do you know if you can get an attachment to run on a typical propane bottle. I intend to eventually setup a 11lb bottle.

Thank you for posting this!

Update: 145sqin surface. You can run it from a larger tank. I do like the Grill grate. Let us (me!!) know how it works when you get it.

Okay here is an update for you. Got a chance to try out the new Cuisinart grill at lunch today. Set it up on my deck railing and had at it. I had 5 large chicken thighs to grill. All fit on the grill with room for one more. It lit right up and heated up quick. Main thing I liked was how well the regulator worked. Very good flame and temperature control. Food came out perfect. A huge step up from my old el cheapo grill.

Quite happy with the purchase at least for it's first use.

My teardropping is solo camping, so I take the Coleman Fold-n-Go that we decided was too small for our travel trailer camping.

I suppose I could have gone smaller or cheaper but it is something I already own and does quite nicely and is pretty compact in its own right.

I also have a portable standup grate what I use over wood coals from time to time.

They've gotten really expensive since I bought mine, I doubt I would cough up the cash for one now.
