I took up fishing when I retired 8 years ago. I didn't think I'd enjoy something I'm so bad at so much.

I use my kayak most of the time.

My son was in town yesterday and it was a relatively nice day here in the frozen tundra so we decided to walk on water and drop a line through some 6" holes for a couple hours. I don't have an ice shelter of any sort but it was 30deg and calm so not too bad. Had hot coffee and cooked some bacon and eggs on my single burner Coleman. I also don't have a power auger so we had to drill our first two holes by hand. A guy who came out about an hour after us punched three more for us with his battery powered auger. Fish? Oh yeah... not a single nibble!
