I have no idea what you are saying here sorry; all I can get out of this is that you don' like fiberglass as a skinning material and "the real thing" is out there somewhere.

What I think you are saying is that plastic\fiberglass panelling as a skin will break up as it is hit with rocks and other minor impacts. So which is the better approach; building foam plywood composite panels and making the shell that way? How thick should the plywood be? is 1/4 inch inside and outside thick enough?
Or
Is building a frame and filling the voids with foam and then putting a aluminium or plywood skin over it and sealing it? *either glassing over the ply or using angle iron and seam tape to seal up the aluminium skin)
