diy insect screens

hello good folks
for those that have home built doors on there campers, what have you found to be a good insect, mosquito screen if one likes to sleep with the door open on a summers night,( and no we do not have bears in NZ) some type of roller with magnetic strips?, quite keen to see or hear of any genius solutions, without a chemical bombardment. im in the design phase of making an internal door screen, but realistically im jumping the gun... considering i haven't even made my doors yet, and a list that is way to long to type...

These certainly aren't cheap, but when I was pushing up the z's on Saturday night I was very happy with these Aussie Traveler doors.
You can open the glass leaf and still lock the world with the insect screened security mesh inner door.

I was thinking you could do a similar design with homemade doors.

Why not commercial screened windows? Expense?



Sometimes our windows are only open an inch. Sometimes they are fully open or somewhere in between. It just depends.

expense and availabilty here in NZ, shipping plus tax, also the teardrop is a little bigger than most and my door opening is larger than the standard 26x36inch that seems to be the common size, , but i will look into the aussie ones, cousins getting a rv sent over from melbourne , might be able to sneak some premade ones onboard...

We run with an old fashioned mozzie net for a bed.
I was thinking though that when I get around to making the Wiley windows a drop in frame with netting that goes where the perspex / glass normally sits would be a simple solution.

Shudder to think what an Aussie Traveller door would cost in Aotearoa.
Nearly had to sell one of the children to fund them here in Oz.

I reckon edge is on the right track.
Wiley window with a screen wouldn't cost too much, I reckon.
I would just screen the outside so the window wouldn't need an extra drop in piece.

Or replicate the principle of the Aussie Traveller door.
Make your main door, cut a big hole in it and screen the hole. Then just hinge a solid panel of ply or perspex over the outside.
Job done.

Closure would be similar to the Aussie Traveller door.
Pin protruding from outer leaf goes into hole in inner door, and gets captured by a clip of some sort,
Being home made, simplest would be if pin goes right through main door and is clipped on inside.

My doors are basically a door in a door.
Even aluminium window like tony posted are expensive here, but I do reckon a nice setup could be built that does the same thing but costs less than half the price.
The other night I slept with the outer door wide open. Just insect screen and security mesh between me and nature.
It was very cold out, but rugged up in bed I was nice and warm anyway.

I have homemade doors and open them while sleeping. The screens are a curtain attached at the top of the door frame and hang down over the opening. I use common window screen with duct tape on the edge for reinforcement. I have neodymium magnets under the tape edge which matches up to screws with finish washers on the door frame. Most of the time the screen is rolled up and secured with a tie.
I have thought of making something a bit more elegant but these have been satisfactory. A roller blind is inexpensive. I have thought about replacing the paper blind with screen.
I can crack my door open by using a screen door hook placed on the outside of the door frame. The eye is on the inside of the door. This holds the door part way open neither opening or closing more.
