Help with gas springs/struts

Postby Bretster » Tue Jul 05, 2022 7:01 pm

Hi All,
I have been roughly following Tony Latham’s book to build a teardrop but have a question re: strut pound ratings. Since I am using his profile with little modification I figure I can use his mounting locations and strut specs. My question is - when Tony says to use 90 pound struts, does this mean 2 - 45 pound rated struts, or 2 - 90 pound rated struts? Thanks in advance to any who respond (hopefully Tony is watching).

I THINK that's what he means. :frightened:

So yeah, two 90-pounders.

Thanks much!
I already bought a pair (had to buy 100# as all I could find) so that was the answer I was hoping for. I looked through your guide but couldn’t find out if I needed one or two rated at 90#. Maybe I missed it. Anyhow all is good. I hope to post some pics once completed. Just can’t find the time during construction.
Your book has been very useful, but I have managed to make some mistakes anyway, mostly because I have changed/modified a few things and I don’t always read all your instructions. Plus I don’t always have the correct tools at hand. But for a first build by a jack of all trades, master of none, I think it is going well.

Thanks. And I don't think it's possible to build a teardrop and not make mistakes.

Where are you located?

Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. Some things are hard to find here, prices are higher and shipping from the US can be ridiculous.

Well, dang on those prices. At least you get to pay with prettier money. :thumbs-up:
