Traveling Route Suggestion from Craters of Moon to Reno

We had gone back and forth between taking Rte 90 vs 14 through South Dakota.... and I think I do remember you saying 14 is the way to go (taking a little longer but avoiding "the interstate travel experience". We were looking for a slower more relaxed route with a good look at rural America..... and this the rte of travel we will be taking, at least most of the trip through SD.

If the timing is right as you head towards reno from ely, you may want to consider Hickson campground on the east side of Austin. It is BLM, free, rustic with pit toilets. There are petroglyphs onsite. Nice little campground. We have done several teardrop gatherings there.
