I have Glue question

Postby Onajourney » Fri Dec 02, 2022 10:26 am

Getting ready to closeup the inner hatch with BB. I would rather not use a permanent glue like PL3 that I have used on most everything else. Thought being, I will have tail light, overhead light, and speaker wiring inside that I may need to get to in the future. I was thinking about using a hot glue gun. Any other suggestions on a non-permanent glue or reason not to use the glue gun?
Thanks Chris

Maybe you can strategically locate a few access panels that use no glue and then go ahead and use a proper glue everywhere else?

I don't know how you would use hot glue on such a large panel? And if you needed to remove it, wouldn't you have to heat the hatch to remove it? As in over 300ºF?

I'd also be concerned about the integrity of the glue. I use the stuff from time to time--it does have its place but it's not like PL3 or TB2 for strength.

Me? I vote you do a forever-wiring job and use the PL3.

Non-permanent glue = glue that will eventually fail.

You could attach you panel with screws. You'd want to do a very neat job of spacing your screws since they will show.

I'd do as bulletproof a job of wiring as I could, and/or use conduit and glue the panel in.

Not a bad idea. I am going to mock-up some paper/elmer's glue joint this evening for test.

I did a removable inside liner on mine. Glad I did as there was a problem I had to work on, the wiring was open & exposed with the panel removed. The hatch has 2 speakers, the 3rd brake light, back-up lights, ground, dome light, etc. It was a PITA to work on, but better than butchering a finished panel & starting over...

That's a great looking galley Noseoil. Is the headliner only held up from the fasteners around the perimeter? I don't see any other ones.
