AC Cowling finally built

Postby philpom » Fri Dec 27, 2024 6:07 pm

Took me a little while but the material floating around in the garage got to me and I finally completed the cowling for the AC. It's just made from plasticore. I measured, marked and scored the material and then folded it together. I was considering many methods to hold it together but in the end simple gorilla tape won out. It sticks very well to this material, is durable and UV resistant. I'm hoping it will last at least 5 years.

The way I framed out the unit this cowling slides over the AC very tightly under the angle up against a neoprene gasket. Without the cowling the camper has set through a number of storms, no leaks so this is mostly to keep dirt, dust, leaves etc out of the AC. Also should protect the fins and provide even more water intrusion protection during a tow.

I pondered for some time how I might affix it for travel but after installing it I ha e to think it's fine with nothing more than a friction fit. It's snug and takes a few pops to get it on all the way. Thought?

It's 8" deep.

This should also be very helpful in the winter when we don't need the AC.

Looks good to me. You might add a keeper strap to it so that of it does blow off while driving it doesn't land in the road.

P.S. Wasn't AC Cowling the guy who drove the white bronco for OJ?
