Custom side table complete

While I enjoy the features of our cabelas portable kitchen it takes up too much space in the rear storage, is heavy and time consuming to set up and break down. I have wanted to build a large side table to replace it for some time now. Finally I had time and motivation. Took a few hours over 3 days to get it done, some of that was dry time and some of it was waiting for Amazon to deliver the leg. I routed a bevel around the edge just to help it look more refined.

I used leftover 3/8 maple ply from the build, the table is 44" long and 22" wide. The leg can adjust for uneven ground and folds away for storage. I stained it with Ready Seal. I found all of the bits and pieces in my spare parts bin except I opted for a pre-manufactured leg. $30 for that but what a deal compared to all the others I found.

Table stores in the rear storage area (we call it the trunk) and takes 10 seconds to deploy. Second picture shows the trunk area. When we deploy the awning and extra room it will still work flawlessly.





We are taking an overnighter in the next couple of weeks, perfect opportunity to test it in the field.

The table is great, quick setup and breakdown. Location and height also works well, this was a cold and short trip and while we didn't utilize it much except to sit and eat smoked salmon on bagels with cream cheese it will be a very solid addition. Can't wait for more opportunities. I think we are heading out in the next month or 2 on another adventure! So much more room for storage now and while we were on this trip we considered some new shelving inside that should be perfect for each of us. Above the windows inside I plan on putting 6" deep shelves that should be perfect for personal items at night. I'm certain I'll share those once they are complete.
