Normally yes, but I had the heavily pregnant soon-to-be mother of my second grandchild in the truck, with her groceries in the back.
The ice cream was melting and, well, priorities...
So, I settled on a quick photo and get her home before she went into labour.

Took a little late afternoon fishing trip. Fished into the evening.
I thought moonrise over the bay, with the smelter and town on the right, looked very nice.

Today I fixed a light, by taking out a bad switch that was integrated into the socket, soldering the wire around it, and adding a new switch to the base from junk I already have.

174488

And, yes, I also made the base (years ago), out of an exercise weight. At least that's what I'm told it was--I personally haven't been to a gym since high school.

But that's not what I'm here to talk about. Instead, I want to mention this can of solder flux that I found last Summer when we cleaned out my Dad's workbench.

174489

Unfortunately, he seems to have mixed some epoxy on the lid at one time or another. I'm not sure how old this can is. He and his brother used to visit the dump of one of the radio manufacturers in Philadelphia back in the 1930's and I suspect he found it there. It still has a quarter of a can of flux in there (probably close to what it had when he acquired it), and it worked great when I soldered the wire to the switch terminal this morning. The top label mentions the image was designed and registered in 1903.

Around the can:

Love the last picture, suggesting the product's use by dynamo builders. It seems just possible this can is a hundred years old. Slightly possible the guy who wrote the sentences on the side might have remembered the Civil War!

BTW, I was surprised to see Nokorode is still sold today, and still uses the crossed soldering irons in its logo. Lot more warnings and such on the modern can. Remember: Apply a very little only, and you can hand it down to your grandchildren!

I was scrounging an adjustable wrench from the tool pile at the cabin and was surprised to see it had my grandfathers name etched on it. I love these little links to our past we stumble upon every now and then.

It's already Good Friday here. So naturally it was time to gather the family for a feast.
We spent the afternoon making pizzas in the wood oven.
My dessert pizza was popular.
Ordinary pizza dough, with a layer of Nutella, topped with marshmallows, blueberries, strawberries, crumbled Cherry Ripe, and sprinkled with raw sugar.
I'm not too sure where these products are sold, so for those who don't recognise them:
Nutella is a spread originating in Italy made from hazelnuts and cocoa.
Cherry Ripe is an Australian candy bar consisting of minced cherry and coconut covered in chocolate.

Just bought this HD Ultra Limited to ride Route 66 cross country in September. Big bucket list item and needed a comfortable rear seat for my wife. Going to sell the Victory Kingpin now. It will be an epic ride with my two brothers and the wives! I did the Trans America Trail on my KTM-690R 3 years ago with one of my brothers.. now this. ImageImage

I took my 0.223 out to sight in after moving the scope forward to adjust the eye relief.
3 sighters with Winchester target ammo, which doesn't work very well in my rifle but is good enough to get her "on paper".
Then a 3 shot group with Hornady 55grn SP Custom ammo. 0.75" group at a measured 100 yards on target one.
Then a 3 shot group with Australian Defence Industries 55grn Outback ammo. 1" at 100 yards.
Pretty happy with 1 minute of angle or less from a budget hunting rifle.
Shooting off the tailgate of the truck with a $30 Harris bipod knock-off and commercial ammo.
I must admit the scope, a Delta Stryker, is anything but budget. It cost twice as much as the rifle.
All set for the 300 metre shoot at the club on Saturday.
I had no idea shooting at little circles was going to become such an addiction.

Today, I sat at the bedside of a terminally ill friend.
He is angry and not yet ready to accept that his time has come.
His estranged wife and his children are at his bedside, and said they were grateful for my presence,
Still, I feel like I am intruding.

Utilized the 4x8 Harbour Freight Trailer to move our things from our place in Alamos, Sonora, MEX to our home in Green Valley, Arizona, USA on Friday. Going to stay stateside for a very long time (at least 18 months, but probably longer as my wife doesn't enjoy Mexico as much as we get older). Longer drive than normal with a few cargo inspections along the way (you know.. the whole stopping fetanyl thing..) and a gas stop... Left 12:45pm, arrived 9:45pm. Quick border passing.

Drove 65-70mpg. Greased bearings before the departure... checked anytime we stopped (people potty, pet potties, gas, etc..) and the hubs were always cool to the touch. Adjusted load even before we left Alamos after a few topes loosened up things just 2km past the house. Load stayed absolutely tight the rest of the way. LOTS of heavy tools in both the truck and trailer, so it was a more substantial load than the photo might indicate. Maverick EcoBoost AWD got about 21 mpg for the trip.

Wow...looks like a beautiful area. Glad you had a good time. Very nice looking setup. Camping off grid in remote areas is just the best.

I'll be headed out that way again in September. Doing Route 66 on the Harleys with my two brothers and our wives. We are going to go off route to visit Moab and Arches NP for one day. Big adventure. Have to hotel it with the ladies however.

Nice drone shot, or is that taken from a nearby hill? I bought a drone ( not a toy, but not professional either) for my trip in January, but lost it in South Carolina on the second flight. Winds aloft caught it and blew it away before I could descend out of it , then lost sight of the drone and run out of batteries. A lot of trees and etc. and not sure where it went down. I searched almost half a day. Nothing. :-( Rookie drone pilot.. should have known better.

Sad story. You are a good friend. We all have expiration dates. Treasure each day.

Yes, taken with my drone.

Travel safe on your trip! Perhaps you are aware, but Arches (and other Parks) have had their staffing and budgets gutted, and it's seriously affecting entry. From the 'Net:

'Arches National Park implemented a timed-entry reservation system to manage visitor flow and reduce congestion, especially during peak season. From April 1 to July 6 and August 28 to October 31, 2025, timed entry tickets are required for entry between 7 a.m. and 4 p.m. No timed entry ticket is required for entry before 7 a.m. or after 4 p.m., and also between July 7 and August 27, 2025.'

I THINK this is where you get the tickets: https://www.recreation.gov/timed-entry/10088426

Mick:

It is addictive. I bought a Bergara Ridge Carbon this winter in 7mm PRC and have put a lot of rounds downrange while working up loads.

Image

I'm quite pleased with what it'll do, pushing a 160-grain bullet at 3,000 fps. I may do some 400 yard shooting with it next week.

Shoot straight.
