5 X 10 plywood

Postby Roddy Riggs » Mon Mar 14, 2005 10:17 pm

Does anyone out there know where I can find 5' X 10' plywood? I want to build a teardrop slightly larger than the originals. I live about 30 miles east of St. Louis, Mo. and have called every liumber dealer in the area with no results. They act like you are from outer space for asking. I can find 4' X 10' buts thats it. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Rod
I've been to three county fairs and a goat roping, but I ain't never seen anything like this!

Roddy, here's an option. Maybe try some of the marine suppliers for plywood, it might be high dollar, I didn't look for 5 footers however, but I think they may be available, another option, I bought 4x8's on my tear and used a 3 wing cutter on the router and cut a slot then inserted a 1" spline full length and epoxied it in. My 4x8's turned into 4x10/s are plenty strong. It would be no problem to add an extra 12" in height. Just make sure that you don't have a vertical joint in line with another vertical joint on the long side. A whole lot cheaper. Just my idea. See my photo album and you can see where I joined the plywood. Doug Hodder

8) I'm pretty sure American Hardwoods in Phoenix, AZ has it thats where I get my 4 x 10 acx 3/4 ply from. ph # 602-271-4608. Sorry I called and they said no but told me to call Spellmans wood co but they said they where out of stock then I called City Plywood and he told me that the factory hasn't made any in a while. Sorry

Finding, shipping and cost all caused me to make my own 5X10' 3/4" plywood. Shipping plywood is NEVER economically feasible. (unless you buy a Boxcar full of it) Buy a 1/8" slot tool

http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/D ... mber=42133

slot sheets of 1/2" plywood to make a 5X10 inserting & gluing an 1/8" spine into the sheets to join them. Then laminate a sheet of 1/8" laun (or what ever) making a 5X10, stagaring the joints to each side using a good exterior white glue. Guaranteed savings = $$HUNDREDS $$.

Happy trails

I was wondering that as well but I found treated ¾” tong and grove and bought all 4 sheets. Not sure what I am going to do with them all but they should cover the floor of my 5’x10’ and after a good fill of glue the joints should hold up well.
