1/2" Plywood

Postby BufordT » Tue Aug 31, 2004 8:58 am

With the storm coming. I just got back from getting plywood. What a mess. Place was crawling with people. Getting the cheap plywood.

With that in mind I went for the 1/2" sanded plywood. Didn't have to wait in line. Will use it for the windows here and when storm goes by I'll use it on my next tear.

Plans called for 1/2" floor and 3/4" sides. I'll be using 1/2" on floor and sides as it's what I have now.

Anyone else use 1/2" for there sides and how did it turn out?

Hey Buford,

I used 1/2" to do the mockup, and I would definitely build with 1/2" sides if I didn't need insulation...

How strong are they expecting your Hurricane to be? Frances, isn't it?

Mike...

P.S. Are you going to bug out with your teardrop to your property in TN or do you have to go all the way up to visit Chip?

Might just make it all the way up there if we have to. We'd be staying at my parents house if necessary. But

I don't think we'll be needing insulation so I'll be using the 1/2" Thanks Mike and Chip

Might. Just might. They don't know yet if it's going to hit here or not. Won't know for sure till Thursday or so.

Also not sure how big it's going to be. I can tell you this. If it's as big and bad as they say it's going to be and hits where they say it's going to hit. Then with the last on tha went through Orlando and this one going through Orlando also. It's going to be really bad.

Buford,

It looks like you guys in Palm Bay haven't seen any major activity in a number of years...

Frances, on the other hand...
Reports From An Air Force Reserve Hurricane Hunter Aircraft Indicate That Maximum Sustained Winds Have Increased To Near 135 Mph... With Higher Gusts. Some Strengthening Is Possible During The Next 24 Hours.

Looks to be a level 4 since it is now over 130mph. Ouch! When will you guys be leaving for "South Georgia"? Your teardrop is already there, waiting for you, isn't it?

Hmmm maybe you could take some of that 1/2" plywood and build a Weekender while you are up there! :)

Now Now Now. Don't be thinking you can read what Mother Nature is thinking. I'd wait a while before I stated that it's going to hit anywhere.

I did check and it looks that way but. Chip may be right it my be going to S. C.

Lets just wait and see. In the mean time. I'll be getting ready tomorrow if it looks like its heading this way.

Well it's too early to tell for sure. But it's interesting to know where you guy are, so we can watch the storm realtive to your positions.

I'm stuck here in Palm Bay. We were supposed to fly out Sat afternoon but I don't think that will happen. I left my wife at her sister's in Orlando but I think they will get just as hard. I will stay in Palm Bay to help my mom. My dad got called to go to stay at the hospital to help them out.

We really haven't done any prep, just gather water and canned food. We picked up the potential flyers from the yard and tied down the boat to it's trailer. My mom was lucky and found gas and batteries today. I didn't want to brave the Home Depots but was able to up the other car on Tue. We'll just hunker down here. You can't really run since they never know where it will hit land.

It's still coming, It has dropped in speed so it is kinda wobbling out in the Atlantic. at least it has dropped from a cat 4 to a cat 3.

Ain't nothing for us to do but ride it out now. I didn't know you were in Palm Bay. Should have told me. Let me know if you guys need anything. We might be just down the street from you.
