Corner trim for side/roof trimming

Postby Woodstramp » Fri Feb 18, 2011 5:25 am

I've seen (in build pics) an aluminum edge trim made for roof edges. It's basically L shaped in profile, can be bent on a radius and has a filler plastic strip that slide in and covers the screw heads.

First, what is this called?

Second, what lengths does it come in?

Third, who sells it?

Forth, how much does it cost?

I live in central Alabama...are there any suppliers in or around Birmingham?

Its called Insert Corner molding.

I have bought it in lengths as long as 22'.

It can be purchased at several places but your best place is to buy it locally at an RV dealer...the shipping will Kill ya!

14 to 16' is the most common lengths and I have paid from $20 to $35 a length.

The insert costs about $5 for 25-30'.

Here is a place you can get it shipped from, but hold on to your wallet.

Len pretty much covered it!

Find a local RV dealer that stocks it. I got mine at Camping World. They don't have a very good reputation for customer service but they were the only place near me that had in in aluminum. Most places I looked at only had it in white.

The Camping World stuff I got was very dirty and dull looking when I bought it. I had to clean it and then polish it before use. Bottom picture is what it looked like. Middle picture is what it looked like after a good cleaning and the top picture is what it looked like after polishing.

It's very easy to work with and the inserts come in many colors. They also have a flat insert trim that is good for covering seams on flat surfaces. I used it for where my diamond plate met the aluminum on the front.

Len,

Thanks for the info and link. Now, at leasst, I can call folks and put them on the same page if ordering.

Plano,

That is one sharp camper. I'm planning on using red/white/black colors on my project too. I'm not Swiss, but because my camper will be multi-use and I've always carried a Swiss Army knive .....thought about calling it the "Swiss Army Camper". Looks like you already have that covered. Like I said....good looking camper there.

Madjack,

Birmingham used to be a major steel producer. There is some, but just a fraction compared to last 100 years. Back in the early 90's my little brother worked for an aluminum extrusion plant east of B"ham. They folded years ago. They made all kinds of extruded trim. Wish those guys were still in b'ness. Thanks.
