Mark Twain has been accused of saying " I don't give a damn for a man that can only spell a word one way ".

But after some research found that it was first used in 1855 and can not be attributed to him either in speeches or any writings.

But here is one that he did use in several letters and is pertinent to this topic.

" The difference between the almost right word and the right word is really a large matter—'tis the difference between the lightning-bug and the lightning. "

 We seem to have gotten of the subject of yelling completely. It is looking like not all puters work with spellcheckers... Notice that is a real word. 8)

the problem with spell checkers is they won't catch the difference between red and read. Ya still have to edit as you have to edit for content! We are still having folks who don't like a post, screaming....

Many times its better to read thread completely (all responses) and walk away and think about all the comments (let it jell in brain for a few hours).... Come back and make response.... Do not rely on spell check and quickly accept presented words, remember its only a guess by the computer..... Any spelling "mistrakes" can be fixed.... Many time spell check can insert wrong word and results can be embarrassing or hilarious.... And most of all PROOF read.... Does the statement you made sound right, does it convey the right message....

I know at times I have been in to much of a hurry and have responded to some things and it came out poorly, and I have been trapped in the spell checker "wrong word" syndrome.....

What really sucks is on a forum where they do not allow "edits" once something is "saved"..... Your mistakes are there for all eternity for everyone to see...

Another thing we get trapped in is we are just responding to words on a screen, but behind the screen is a person there is a living, breathing, feeling most time caring soul..... Try to respond as if your were face to face with a real person.... I know many time I forget this and I have hurt people unintentionally....

Lots of time emoticons are appropriate to convey mood of conversation, but I am really not into them so I tend not to use the, but they are a very useful tool in communications....

IF one is looking for a excellent spell checker, here is a excellent one that can be called up to spell check almost text application that has a open/valid "edit" window... Works on almost all forums and is actually better then the spell check in MS Word (not surprising) ....

http://www.microspell.com/

(In this document Micro spell did not like "mistrakes" and Emoticons)...

Cheers!

I am looking forward to meeting Gage, and everyone else for that matter.

Yes, try to read the entire thread before firing off an inflammatory missive expounding on your lack of understanding of the situation. Might save some crows to make the pie you might have to eat.

If everyone would please take a minute to look to the top right corner of their post... Notice the words "edit" and the X

You can edit! The blue X will delete your post if no one else has posted.....

If someone else has posted you can click on Edit and remove the words. Write in delete and send an admin a note. We will come along and delete it for you. Please on your note include the URL for the thread. Makes it easier to find...

Yes I know one can edit here... But some forums,(this is just one of many I visit), and I also run one for dunebuggies), some Admins have shut off edit feature once text is "submitted".... Others have edit expiration time and you only have 2 hours or 4 hours or maybe 24 hours to edit before text becomes locked and you can not edit.... I usually find out I did a baddie about 5 minutes after edit features locks text so no edits possible anymore....

That's for sure. I gave up posting anything technical in the electrical section a long time ago. It's best if I do not even read some of the "imaginary science" which is posted there.

Got to agree about the inventive or imaginary or junk science in electrical section.... Nicolas Tesla and Tomas Edison would turn over in their graves if the could read some of it....

Aside from spell check, I think attitude is important as Madjack and others have posted.

My Momma always said if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all. You're never going to convince anyone you are right by making them feel stupid because their ideas are not the same as yours/mine
