Is insurance required on a "utlity trailer" in Michigan for registration?

no, just a weight slip from an approved scale...call or go into the DMV if you dont know what local scales they accept weight slips from.

oh, you will also need to pay $75 for a lifetime (non-expireing) plate, as long as the trailer is less then 2500 lbs, $200 if it weighs 2500 - 9,999 lbs, and $300 if it weighs 10,000 lbs ore more

thats really all there is to it in Michigan. You certainly can insure it if you want to, but it isnt needed to get a registration and permanent plate on a utility trailer.

that, I am not sure of, but the plate will still be the same cost (goes by weight). That I know of, Michigan does not designate anything other then weight for trailers, but the first letter of the plate number does designante the number of axles, I believe.

Since it is still not a "driven" or "self-powered" vehicle, I dont think anything else is required. I would call the SOS and ask, or search on thier website at http://www.michigan.gov/sos
