Wet floor?

Greetings

We've just returned from another great weekend away, this time though we had rain! Not a few scattered showers but non stop two day downpour.

The trip to the campground was very wet, I didn't turn the wipers off once on the whole trip, we even set up camp in the rain.

Once the easy-up was erected it got easier, and drier, but we found to our dismay that the floor of the trailer, under the mattresses was wet.

We have occasionally had damp matresses when we've been a bit too enthusiastic with the hose as we've washed the trailer but never when underway.

Has anyone ever had condensation forming under the matresses or water working its way up from beneath the trailer into the cabin itself?

Is it possible the water may be working it's way in around the door seal? You know, being forced in by the airflow when being towed down the road.

I think the best way for you to find out how the water is getting in you trailer is. Take the mattress out put your wife in your tear and as you said get very enthusiastic with the hose. You should be able to find how the water is getting in. Good luck!

One other idea is to get things throughly dry and spray the inside floor with talcum powder and then spray water briefly the talcum will absorb the water giving you an idea of origion. The having your mate inside may or may not work unless it is abig leak.
Most likley ingress is arround seals, that arent!

Yep, have the same problem here. If I know I am going to be or possibly be traveling in rain I fold the mattresses(2 wal mart flip chairs) up and put them towards the middle of the teardrop and I sometimes also put towels on the floor just inside the doors. I haven't figured out where the water comes from yet, as I figure it cold the door seal, or it could be coming around the door trim, or around the window. I have thought of taking all of the trim around the doors off and recaulking them.

No, I have not.
If it were to occur, it would have to be from a vent or hole in the floor.
While wood can transfer moisture, it cannot do so quickly enough to produce puddles.

It sounds like from the info you've provided that water has leaked in either during your trip to the campground, or while you were setting up.

It may be a real "leak" or maybe the rain drenched the open door, then dripped down when closed again?

Kirkman's suggestion is the best way to find a leak.

Good luck, it shouldn't take too long to see water seeping, or running in.

Then comes the hard part, whatever you do, don't smear something "around the area" you think it is coming in, as it won't last.
If it is the door, or edge trim, etc, take it off and seal it correctly.

We also had the same problem which we discovered during a particular long rain. It actually turned out to be our Hurricane hinge. I had used caulk along most of it, but it left a channel which directed the water in such a way that it ran in, down the wall, and to our mattress. I have recaulked, and now we no longer have the problem.

PS But if I have learned anything about teardrop building in the last year, there are most likely 100 different other reasons it may be wet.

Thanks everyone, lots to think about but I am leaning towards the door leaking. I know that's where the water gets in if I hose the trailer down.

On the way home we lifted the matresses and moved them up off the floor and despite a few showers nothing was wet when we got home so maybe the solution is that simple.

I did find though that if you have a big outdoor gas area heater you can tolerate almost any weather Oh yes and a few bottles of wine!
