MSR fuel bottles

Postby bmacke » Wed Apr 13, 2011 2:52 pm

Is anyone using the MSR type fuel bottles for their Coleman fuel?

I'm building a chuckbox-style box to hold my stoves and lanterns and I don't think I want or need to carry a gallon sized container of fuel in there at all times.

And I guess they come in different sizes? How much white gas do some of you go though with a few lanterns and a stove for a weekend?

Thanks,
Brian

I bought a red plastic bottle (1/2 gallon maybe??) of Coleman fuel and use that to fuel all of my stuff. I just refill it as needed from a metal 1 gallon can. It is also easier to pour. I usually take 3-4 gas appliances each time I camp. I fill them before I leave and most of the time that will last the weekend.

Those are good bottles for fuel. I have only used it for backpacking. They don't leak. I have one bottle that I got in the 1970s. It is still good.

I use them to store fuel for my MSR Dragonfly stove, they work great, take a beating and I've had them for about 10 years. Only thing I had to do was change the rubber O-ring

I use MSR fuel bottles for my fuel. Since my fuel is traveling inside my car, I want something better than a dented up gallon can. MSR bottles are solid, very well made, very well sealed, and they pour easier than the big gallon can.

I have two 32-ounce bottles, and that gets me through any weekend of camping with my two lanterns, with plenty to spare.

We have had fuel bottles that look like the MSR for better than 25 years and have not had a problem with it other than the bottom (concave) was pushed out by atmospheric pressure in an altitude change.

I have and have used these bottles to store many fuels in for years.

The most notable is Bourbon.

A good choice.

Hey Len - have you had any issues keeping booze in them? I know that for as long as I can remeber they have been labelled "Not for alcoholic beverages" - as least MSR has.

I do use the MSR for both kerosene and CF. What everyone said - compact, bulletproof (almost) and easy to pour form. If the appliances are full to start I don't see how an additional quart of each doesn't get me through even a 3 day weekend.

Slow-C, they are MUCH easier to pour from.

Len, I hope you never get your "fuel" bottles mixed up. :o

Never got them mixed up and they do hold Booze very well.

I store it in there when I'm in "No Alcohol Parks"

Ya usually get caught using the original bottle and no Ranger is ever gonna mess with somebody drinking "Kerosene & Coke"......to much paperwork!

Just in case people didn't know.
(I didn't, so I looked it up).

Len, that is an idea.
A VERY interesting idea!
