Trailer

OK, I got the popup trailer torn down to the frame. It measures 6 ft 4 inches wide by 11 ft 1o inches long. I left the width for the bed but I shortened the length to 11 ft even. Now Im looking at the frame and wondering if I should cut the extended arms on each side and let the 3/4 inch floor hang over, or leave the extended arms and put 3/4 plywood on top. My thinking is weight. If I lose the arms is there a dramatic drop in weight? Im like everyone else Im trying to go as light as possible. I drive a 2010 Toyota tacoma prerunner with towing package. So theres no problem there, I still would like to stay light for the MPGs.

some pics might help to give you better advice. I can't say without seeing what you are working with....but weight is always a consideration

My build came out to almost 1800 pounds on a similar trailer. Yours is longer by almost 3 ft. If you can cut the weight all the better.

One thing to consider is making the floor a light weight box and save the weight that way instead of cutting metal...Wit 3/4' plywood you are adding over 100 pounds of wood. Will cutting metal save you that?

Go over to the BUILD JOURNALS and see UNNAMEDTRAVEL TRAILER, my frame is exactly like his. Im referring to the extensions on left and right of the main two runners. Thanks

I would leave the arms.

Remember that the arms carry the weight of the walls and roof in addition to the floor.
The "foundation" is a critical part of the trailer.
If weight is a concern, using 1/2" plywood will save much more than a few metal arms.
