The wrong Key

Postby Shadow Catcher » Sat May 14, 2011 6:58 pm

OK we have the trailer and the key Eric gave me for the rear galley hatch lock does not work. Many/Most trailer locks are FIC and there are numbers stamped on the lock and key and they need to match, identification is two letters followed by 300 through 350. The two letters are for who knows what and to order replacement keys you need only the 300 number.
The galley hatch however has an identification number of AE 012 and the FIC key fits (same blank).

I'm thinking that he may have tweaked the lock to match the other key and then forgot that he did that. In the past, I have taken lock sets to the lock smith before I installed them and had one lock changed so that both will use the same key. Doing it that way, the cost is pretty reasonable. It costs me $6.

Long time past I made some VW locks match buy taking them apart, figuring out how they worked. moved a few parts around and filling some down. Worked for me.

Look in the album and or the build thread. No it is not quite finished and I will have to do some finish work and wiring. The "negative" is grounded to the frame and I will be running it where it should be and adding wiring for the solar panels.
I am very pleased to have it and it will be campable with in the week. I will be calling concerning the keys. The parent company is Fastec and I have a phone number. Evidently it is not difficult to re-key the locks.
