we were in Houston TX headed toward Galveston we were riding with my uncle
when on the access road I noticed a 4 wheeled flat bed trailer running down the road with no tow in sight
it hit the retaining fence and lifted all 4 wheels off the ground had it veered onto the four lane well, that could have been a catastrophe

Why not just grab one of the cardboard tubes for cement, couple layers fiberglass around tube, couple marine ply circles for end, be done. Lighter too. mpg count.

the difference being an airplane gets an inspection by a certified mechanic every year, the big airliners get an inspection every 100 hours or less, those spare tires are up there for years until you have a flat. How many of you have actually pulled your spare down, greased the cable, and checked the air pressure in it since you owned your car? you owners manual may actually say to do that every time you check your tire pressures.

Enough has been said about securing the pipe, but Slow made me reflect on something that I witnessed this spring.

Since hay was brought up...

Last spring us Minnesotan's had some HUGE frost boils in the roads. Some of them you could actually catch some air! I was traveling home after work and met a "typical" local farmer hauling round bales of hay. By "typical" I mean the ones that only travel 40 miles from farm A to farm B. "There is no need to tie down this load. It's not going anywhere." Well, he hit the frost boil from hell about .10 of a mile in front of us and his load went right off the trailer. Thank god it went off on the ditch side or else I would have been hit by a half dozen, very heavy bales.

Yes, I proceeded to turn around and let that sob have it!

But regarding the initial mistake, I originally bought 24' of 1/4" Steel square tube for the frame for my teardrop. You can build a CAR out of that stuff... I was heat exhausted... Thank God for Craigslist, I was able to sell it and get the right 1/8" tube that I meant to buy!

All this pontificating and so far the only person on this thread to see it in person is Shadow Catcher. I figure he is ( or she, i don't know ) is some what level headed. Well as level headed as a teardropper can be. So I am not worried about what ever the original object was flying off his ( or hers, I still do not know ) rig and getting me. Also I live in a different part of the states.

I was at the CRA and seen the setup in person. Shadocatcher is right about being wedged in so tightly that it ain't going anywhere. The only way it is going to get loose is if the tongue box gets blown off first. . . And that ain't likely going to happen either! Sure you'll have trailer flex, vibrations, etc - but you gotta have about 6 feet of pipe to come loose and hang off the edge before it lets go. I'd be more worried about what's in the back of pickup or flatbed truck going down the highway than his 6 inch PVC pipe coming out of where it's located.
