Something old something new

Postby SonofT@B » Sat Sep 24, 2011 5:43 pm

Well, this is the start of something new...I just don't know what yet. I found an "old" 1988 Jayco 806 popup on craigslist today for way cheap and decided to bring it home. I'm not sure the wife is happy with me though.

Will need new tires for sure and canvas needs work but seems to have minimum water damage and haven't checked out the electrical at all. Was told the a/c works but I'm assuming nothing works. If nothing else I have a trailer to start on.

Hmmm...stay tuned...it's definitely a project...like I need another one.

Mike if you need help give a hollar as I've with the Jayco's some. If you want to just use the pop up as a pop up the new canvas for them is not to crazy and just check the roof edges and the mounting points for the rods that raise it as thats where they have water damage mostly.

I recanvassed a 1006 for my daughter a few years ago. The canvas was all one piece, so it was a little harder to install than our old Starcraft which was 5 separate pieces. Cost was just under $1000, paid $400 for the trailer which is a '93 and real nice shape other than the canvas. Wood on the front of the top is starting to rot. Removed the A/C unit as we don't need it here in the northeast, it was originally a Florida trailer. Replaced a lift cable in another Jayco popup for some girl that really got took on buying that trailer, that was a little different than I expected!! Bob

That must be a small trailer, since the wheels have been chocked with Lego bricks.

Seriously, though, good luck with the new-to-you trailer.

That Jayco I think I paid $750 for the new canvas 2 yrs ago and was in 5 seperate pieces (2 bunk ends, back panel, and 2 front panels), and it was in the newer style canvas. Found 2 online for $841 for complete Vinyl.

OK so I screwed up. My wife is p.o.ed that I bought a project trailer and I've decided I don't want to do the work right now.

The good news is I think the canvas could be patched and the cushions are not bad and the lift works great AND the A/C DOES work. In fact the A/C's not too big and might be just right for a small TTT (shroud has a hole).

It's about a 6' by 10' frame...it was the smallest popup that Jayco made I believe. So it would also be good for the start of a TTT or larger tear.

Anyway I'm putting it back on Craigslist for $300 today. If anyone on the forum near Atlanta wants it I'll let it go for $250. It has air in the tires (towed it 30 miles yesterday and it towed great) and there is a title.

I guess this "something old" (me at 65) isn't going to make something new after all.

Good news it's gone. Sold it yesterday and actually made a profit on it. No more buys on a whim...promise (are my fingers crossed?).
