The Dog House First trip

Postby jss06 » Sun Oct 09, 2011 3:50 pm

Just returned from Clayton Oklahoma. Went up yesterday morning and spent some time on the backroads testing the trailers off road perfomance. I am happy with it.

Stayed overnight to attend a 4x4 Party put on by my local Jeep shop. Slept very well in the trailer with just the fantastic vent running on low and the windows opened.

I am really pleased with it so far. Now I get to start building interior cabinets.

Sorry no pics of the trailer but I do have a couple of pictures of one of the roads I was on. I will link them later after I download them from my camera.

As an added bonus, It was raining when I returned home. I parked the trailer in the driveway to perform a leak test. So far no obvious water infiltration.

Isn't it nice to have the first trip under your belt with the fear and concern put to rest? Good job!

We've found that the leak test of just sitting in the drive way is phase one. Phase two is driving down the freeway at 65 or 70 mph with road spray coming up at the doors. If you don't have leaks under those circumstances, you're golden. If not, you do what we do and wrap the bed in a cheap blue tarp from Costco.

Very cool John! I'm sure you had a lot of your friends eyeing your teardrop.

Passing the rain test is a great feeling. On our first outing, we had rain on the way back home, and I know I felt good about it not leaking.

Take care,
Tom

No pics of the trailer. Just some landscape shots. To busy having fun with the zoom lens on the new camera.

It was mostly easy graded roads with a few rough spots. This was the first time I had the trailer off the pavement and wanted to take it easy. I was also by myself and did not want to break something and have to walk back to town. Very good chance to see how the Jeeep would handle the extra weight on steep climbs. I did not have any issues.

This was just staring down from the top of Flagpole mountain outside of Clayton, OK.

This is the same section of road taken from the top of the first climb just outside of Clayton. Can you see the road? Look just slightly right of middle in the center of the picture between the 2 center trees.

This is from the same location using the telephoto lens.

And a little closer..

This is just a random scenery pic taken at the same time.

Overall I am really happy with how the trailer performed.

Is was. I really enjoyed sleeping in the trailer. I also liked having the white noise from the fan to supres the outside noises. I really slept good in the trailer.
