Why build?

General Discussion about almost anything Teardrop or camping related

Well I am building and for sure with out a doubt could of bought but its so fun and almost campable.

Gremlin the local Taylor Swift fan club president, says we are not building a teardrop because the shape is all wrong for a teardrop. I tell her its a custom Jeep teardrop and when she wants to build one with my help she can make it teardrop shape. She is making plans. What have I done.

A lot of production trailers are kind of weak looking

Someone mentioned that they are building because they didn't like anything that looked well built. I kind of have to agree with that statement. Mo and I looked at a lot of pop-ups before we get re-directed towards teardrops. Most of the pop-ups had so many accessories in them that there was little storage and the cabinetry seemed poorly built and sometimes just stapled together.

When we started looking at TD's, it was surprizing how many good builders there were out there. Many seemed to have gotten their start by building their own and being asked to build more. I have to say that from my limited knowledge, most TD's are build with much pride and skill where as most RV types are more of a production.

I was not trying to be disrespectful of home builders, just stating that those of us who bought are in the same family, as are tent campers. We are all still campers and we just want to be out enjoying the wonderful out of doors that we have available to us.

I liked building my tear. I liked meeting all of you who helped, commented and read my corny jokes. I liked reading about all of your real life stories and all the first campouts. I liked meeting Grant and becoming a Donating member. I only built mine because of this forum. If I had not found this forum I would have bought mine and never known the difference.
