There is a reason propane compartments aren't locked.... so that the gas can be turned off in case of a leak if the owner is not around with a key.
And a note on the propane cylinder, just tell them it's being used for a cutting torch and no OPD is required 8)

I doubt seriously "application" matters.... There is not anyplace I have ever read the exempts tanks (that require OPD valve by design) by application (cutting torch)... Think your seller is in violation of most propane codes with this concept.... Obviously your seller does not know the rules...

NATIONAL FIRE PROTECTION ASSOCIATION CODE....

Effective April 1, 2002, no cylinder will be filled unless it is equipped with an OPD.

As far as I know, the horizontal tanks cannot be fitted with an OPD valve and are exempt from the new rule.

I would think that the flow from an OPD valve would be the same as a regular valve so why would a tank being used with a cutting torch be exempt from the new rules?

Cheers,

Gus

Mine is not a horizontal tank, and being that I don't turn on the propane (or attach it) unless it's actually burning I don't think there is a reason for anyone to get in that compartment.. Unless it's someone who doesn't belong. I'll have all my little tanks there too..very easy for them to walk away.

Not thinking of you guys...thinking of when I might be parked elsewhere, or even at home when it's not covered. In camp I'll probabl just leave the door open while we are there if we are just hanging out.

Posting from an iPhone isn't any fun...sorry about short replies here for the next few days!

According to NFPA 58 section 2.3.1.5 Exception #1 All cylinders used in industrial truck service, including forklift truck cylinders and cylinders identified and used for industrial welding and cutting gasses. It is clearly posted on a sign where I get my cylinders filled.
