Galley Supports--need replacement

Postby mollyteardrop » Sun Jan 01, 2012 4:24 pm

Our td galley has one support pole on the left side. It is a thin metal rod, and not the best. We are looking for some design ideas to replace it with supports on both sides that are easy to work and take up minimal room. Please give us ideas or recommendations. Thanks@

In our first teardrop, we just used two prop rods. They were mounted to the counter top with hinges. Easy to hold the hatch with one hand and flip them to place and then locked in place at the top with a pin. Normally my wife would help with the lock pin.

On our current tear, we installed gas struts, and we love them!

Can you tell me more about the gas struts? Size, where you get them, etc?
THANKS! Beautiful teardrops :)

Thanks for the kind words on the trailers.

I ordered my struts from McMaster Carr, and size/weight depends on your hatch.

Here is a really good thread on figuring placement out.

If you search Gas AND Strut or Gas AND Support, you'll find lots of great info.

Good luck!

Here is the place that I got mine. It is confusing so I called for help. You need to order the mounting brackets separately. They do also offer an adjustable pressure version. If you are not sure what poundage you have.
