First Aid Kit

Postby Mukilteo » Wed Mar 07, 2012 10:33 pm

This has been brought up in the past, but with the camping season approching I thought I would mention it again.
Be sure to have a first aid kit along with your travels.
I replaced all of the older stuff. Some of it dated back to my backpacking days in the early 80s.
I got a new box from Home Depot to keep mine in.

 Very good idea!
We use a Tupperware (Rubbermaid?) flat container that fits under the seat. Always there but out of the way.

Red Cross first aid training wouldn't be a bad idea either.
I had it when I was in high school (1972) Guess I need it again.

That's the way to do it. Go thru the health aisles at the drug store, or Wally mart, and fill it up. When camping, especially in the boonies your IT. Take lots of stuff, even if you don't think you need it someone else may. We used to go boating when the kids were young and growing up, and one of them made sure it was the first thing in the car. When everyone knows you have it ----your the hit of the party!!

Ours is in a dry bag (we use it canoeing) and it contains most of the items suggested in Field Guide to Wilderness Medicine [Book] by Paul S. Auerbach, Howard J. Donner, Eric A. Weiss. It is definitely over kill for most situations but there are many times camping where you are hours away from help. I have used it on a number of occasions mostly when coming on an accident waiting for first responders and arround camp for minor things, burns, slivers, sprains and strains.
