Waterproofing ply

Postby johnnyb1216 » Tue Apr 10, 2012 8:38 pm

Now that I'm about done with my chassis (all I need now is paint- and now the temps drop :x ), I"m starting to think about making sawdust. i"ve seen so many ways on here to waterproof ply but wanted to know my options from those that have tried them, and any problems you've had with it. also what kind of ply you used.i'm definatly going to use ply from a reputed lumber yard- there are a couple within a 45 min drive i think it will be well worth the extra$ after seeing the voids horror stories, but being in ohio i think the marine stuff may not be an option. also im not afaid to spend money on waterproofing but just wantto know my options- everything from fiberglass cloth and epoxy to ceps( if thats what its called)- and everything inbetween. this is another process on here that i have info overload :? .still on a budget but could scrape together what i need.
Thanks again for all the great ideas, John

If you do a search for "the mix" you might get lucky. I used 3 coats of thinned out Rustolium followed by a heavy thick coat leaving a day between each coat. Now that's not the mix I read about but I think it will work. I plan on having my trailer under-coated when it's done too. The thread I read about the mix in is called "thrifty alternatives" and is a zillion posts long but a pretty good read.

Best wishes!

I used 2 different products. I went with the cpes for the first coat and their half gallon mix did pretty good. I ran out of that though so I bought aeromarine 300/21 1 and galf quart and I loved working with it. If I were to do it over I would of gotten the aeromarine in the one and half gallon. Price is better as well.

Ah ha! The post from GPW is the one I actually meant to send you to.....oops...so sorry! :o I was looking around at tractor supply yesterday and they have that white epdm roll on stuff. You got me thinking too now. It doesn't seem overly expensive for what is claims to do.
