Any jack can be dangerous if not used correctly and with safety in mind.
Always use a largish flat pad under any jack on soft ground.
It doesn't take much of a nudge to tip a trailer of the jack so be weary of other ppl about that may lean on the trailer.
Always chock the grounded wheel fore and aft, and never jack a camper unless it is hooked to your vehicle.

Take care out there ppl, TD'ing can be a dangerous sport :R

Keep it simple. These trailers wiegh very little and you are only jacking up one side. What is wrong with the jacks you are using as stablizers??
I have regular trailer stablizers on the front of my teardrop and used two (1992 -99 Toyota Tracel jacks from pick n pull for the rear.
$4.99 each and they were brand new. never removed from their mounting position up under the right side quarter in the trunk.

As I said in my original post, my stabilizer jacks are the light weight screw jack type that aren't suitable for holding the axle up after jacking, and could never lift the trailer (too much friction on the screw).

You can sort of see them under the back of the trailer in this photo from my gallery

I'm looking at a junk yard today for a suitable scissor jack.

Chas,

If you didn't find one yet, Harbor Freight just put a scissor jack on sale for $19.99 with a coupon for $2.00 off. If you're interested and want a set of their coupons, PM me with an email ID and I'll forward it from my email so you can see if it might work for you.

I built my stabilizing jacks from scissor car jacks, one from a VW rabbit ( I would like some more if any one has some to give away :D ) And a jack that I got out of a wrecked twin to my tow vehicle. The way I mount them I just crank them down and am able to left the axle off the ground.

It has a "car type" lifting pad. But I found a cheap one at a local auto parts store that I have to see tomorrow. It has a flat pad.
